    National Acute Critical Event Simulation

What are the dates and location of the 2025 National Acute Critical Event Simulation?

The 2025 National Acute Critical Event Simulation will take place Thursday, July 10, through Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Clinical Learning and Simulation Facility of the College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. There will be a Meet & Greet with an opening lecture held the evening of Wednesday, July 9. Location for the Meet & Greet is coming soon.

Why should I attend the 2025 National Acute Critical Event Simulation?

N-ACES welcomes critical care trainees from the 13 adult critical care programs in Canada as an introductory preparatory largely simulation-based experience. This annual course is an excellent opportunity for residents to network and meet their colleagues from across the country. A shared start to their training will help foster lifelong friendships and collaborations. The goal of N-ACES is to rapidly upgrade the trainees’ knowledge and skills in the early management of critically ill patients. The course will maintain its small group learning approach using multiple modes of instruction, including a high proportion of experiential learning through a variety of simulation modalities (e.g. facilitated case scenarios, phone simulation, etc.) and interactive group sessions with expert critical care faculty.

Who would benefit from this simulation?

Residents and fellows who work in Canadian critical care units.

    How do I register?

Participation at the N-ACES course is exclusive to fellows in Canadian training programs. To access the registration link please contact your program director.

Is there a meet and greet?

There is a meet and greet for N-ACES participants on Wednesday, July 9. More information is coming soon.

Will presentations be available after the meeting?

Presentations from the 2025 N-ACES course will be made available to all registrants following the event.

    ReCAPP

What are the dates and location of the 2025 Resuscitation Course for Acute Medicine Practicing Physicians (ReCAPP)?

The 2025 Resuscitation Course for Acute Medicine Practicing Physicians (ReCAPP) will take place Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Clinical Learning and Simulation Facility of the College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

What is the Resuscitation Course for Acute Medicine Practicing Physicians (ReCAPP)?

Resuscitation Course for Acute Medicine Practicing Physicians (ReCAPP) has been designed to provide a high-quality, interactive educational opportunity for Canadian practicing physicians who are involved in the initial or ongoing care of acutely unstable patients, increasingly cared for outside the walls of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This full-day course, delivered by a group of Canadian critical care physician-educators, will offer to its participants numerous opportunities for practice and formative feedback, in a non-judgmental, low-risk, informal learning environment. Our main goal is to create conditions where physicians can learn together and from each other how to care for their sickest patients, and ultimately, improve the quality of care received by critically ill patients.

Who would benefit from this course?

Any physicians (e.g., emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, etc.) involved intermittently or routinely in the care of acutely and severely ill patients (e.g., who may require a transfer to the ICU or are already admitted in an ICU), and who want to 1- practice or upscale clinical skills that they need but may use only sporadically, 2- advance their knowledge and skills within specific areas of practice, and/or 3- ensure they are up to date on a range of topics.
